Machar / South River

Machar TownshipEagle Lake is located in the township of Machar.

According to the 2011 census, the township is home to 923 permanent residents, but this number grows significantly during the warmer months of the year as annual cottagers and campers flock to enjoy all that Eagle Lake has to offer.

The township’s website acts as a great tool for information on road maintenance, town events, public beaches, by-law enforcement and tax information. The township also publishes a seasonal newsletter to share relevant information with permanent and seasonal residents.

Located beside beautiful Eagle Lake at 1175 Scarlett Road. St. John’s Anglican Church is the only remaining pioneer church in Machar Township. It was built by local families in 1888.

  • Thanksgiving Saturday at 2pm
  • Christmas Eve at 2pm

Today St. John’s is a community church welcoming all and any who wish to share in God’s word and fellowship.

To the east of Eagle Lake and the township of Machar lies the village of South River.

The village is home to 1,049 permanent residents, according to the 2011 census. Machar and South River partner on many initiatives to maximize community investment, including a community center, the public library and medical center.
 Be sure to check out the village’s website for bi-monthly newsletter updates, upcoming events and other tourism information.

South River is also the closest location for residents of Eagle Lake to access amenities such as the grocery store, Beer Store and LCBO, gas station and restaurant.
